U.S. federal agents delivered grand jury subpoenas on Wednesday to multiple people as part of a probe into efforts by ex-President Donald Trump and his supporters to overturn the result of the 2020 election

The Justice Department is investigating a plan by Trump and his supporters to submit alternative slates of state electors to reverse President Joe Biden's victory in the presidential election

subpoenas were handed to Brad Carver, a Georgia Republican Party official, and Thomas Lane, an official who worked on behalf of Trump's campaign in Arizona and New Mexico

Georgia Republican Party Chairman David Shafer also received a subpoena

Sean Flynn, a Trump campaign aide in Michigan, was handed a subpoena

Officials have previously said that the Justice Department and FBI were examining the issue of false electors, who Trump and others hoped might be approved by state legislators in a last-ditch bid to keep Trump in the White House

FBI agents delivered a subpoena to Lane Wednesday morning at his home in Virginia, according to a person who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation

Hundreds more individuals are being sought. But Democrats and some lawyers have argued that the Justice Department should be moving faster to investigate higher-level organizers and political operatives, given the seriousness of the threat posed to democratic institutions

The federal judge handling that case on Wednesday ordered another trial delay, from August 8 until December

The hearings on Capitol Hill have increased public pressure on the Justice Department to take more aggressive and overt moves to investigate Trump and those close to him for their roles in the run-up to Jan. 6
