Marburg Virus: causes, symptoms and treatments

Marburg is a highly contagious viral hemorrhagic fever, which belongs to the family of the Ebola virus disease

On july 7,2022 two positive cases have been reported in Ghana. 

 Their samples have been sent to the Institute Pasteur in Senegal, a WHO Collaborating Centre for confirmation  

 The Marburg virus spreads to people through fruit bats.

Human-to-human transmission takes place through direct contact with bodily fluids of infected people and surfaces 

 The virus has an incubation period of 2 to 21 days.

Marburg virus symptoms include fever,severe headache,malaise, muscle ache& vomiting.   

There are Marburg virus vaccine & antiviral treatments that have been effective to treat the virus.
