Williams began performing stand-up comedy in his Cincinnati neighbourhood of Avondale.

He polished his humorous delivery by playing in bars around the country, from Oklahoma to Oakland.

By 1999, he had established himself as a comic, performing at venues such as The Improv, The Comedy Club, The Ice House, and The Hollywood Park Casino.

Most notably, he featured as Katt "In the Hat" Williams on BET's Comic View.

In 2006, he starred in his debut comedy special, Katt Williams: Live: Let a Playa Play.

The Pimp Chronicles, Pt. 1 was his second and first HBO stand-up special.

In 2007, he was offered a film/stand-up comedy project dubbed American Hustle.

The film was a critical hit, and it launched Williams' career as a popular comic.
