Joseph Manchin III (born August 24, 1947) is a West Virginia politician and businessman who is the senior United States senator.

Manchin won the 2004 West Virginia gubernatorial election by a large margin and was reelected by an even larger margin in 2008.

Manchin received 53 percent of the vote in the 2010 special election to replace the Senate seat vacated by the death of incumbent Democrat Robert Byrd.
