Evolution of our brain to be language-ready.

Human brain

A new study has found out new connections in the human brain.

The way our language areas are connected has changed more compared to chimpanzees.

Arcuate fasciculus, a nerve tract that connects frontal and temporal lobes is known to play a role in language function

A method called diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) was used, which takes pictures of white matter.

The connectivity is more in human brains, hence smarter.

Any damage to these brain areas has detrimental consequences for language function.

However, they are purely anatomical, so it is hard to say anything about brain function in this context .

Also, these connections are very much unique only to humans.
