Diphtheria is a infectious infection caused by the
corynebacterium diphtheria
bacterium.
The bacteria produces a toxin that spreads across the windpipe, causing breathing difficulties.
Symptoms :
sore throat,swallowing problems,
weakness,
mild fever
In severe cases : breathing problems, a grey or green membrane on the throat, swollen neck glands.
DTP vaccines provide resistance against Diphtheria along with tetanus and Pertussis.
Children aged 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 18 months, 4 years, and between 10 and 15 years are vaccinated.
It is treated with antibiotics and anti-toxin.
Diphtheria transmits from person to person through airborne droplets.
